While visiting family in Stark County for the holiday, Brian Lindenbaum and John-Michael Speelman were looking to play a round of indoor golf but were surprised to find that the nearest venue was in Cleveland. Inspired by the opportunity in Canton and fascinated by new technology in the industry, Lindenbaum and Speelman opened 1899 to give other golf-lovers a place to play in the winter months.
As tribute to Ohio’s deep connection to golf, the business is named after the year that Ohio’s first public golf course opened in Toledo.
