It was an ordinary morning in October 2020, and I was in Burn Bootcamp. I looked up and spotted Erin Powell, a friend from our hometown of Salem, Virginia, whom I’ve known for over 25 years. We’d lost touch but found we had a lot in common - both single, boss-babe mothers of active boys who are now great friends.
Erin has an incredible eye for design; I knew I wanted her to help transform my new Midlothian home to fit my bold personality. In mid-March, another friend, Jackie, joined Erin and me with wallpaper samples, laptops and prosecco to create a plan. Budget was critical; I had the entire home repainted, floors ripped out, wallpaper installed, and more.
Jackie called on her talents and many years of experience in contracting and renovations to create the dining room accent wall. Jackie used lumber, wallpaper and wainscoting to create dimension and depth – I call it my Tic-Tac-Toe Wall. We painted it Hale Navy and used the same color on the wainscoting in the powder room.
The green sideboard accent piece came from Class & Trash, and Rebecca Layman of Twelve Twenty Designs at the Lazy Daisy Store added more special touches to finish off my “emerald beauty.” Another friend, Courtney Sievers, had donated the abstract gold leaf painting to the William Fox Elementary Art Auction, and I made it my personal mission to win it at the live auction – and I did! It adds so much beauty to my whimsical space.
