Looking for movies filled with adventure? How about some romance or even forbidden love? These movies from Latin America will entertain you with their excellent storytelling and beautiful scenery. They are a nice departure from traditional American movies and will expose you to Latin American cultures. Enjoy!

The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

On September 24, 2004, Walter Salles’ The Motorcycle Diaries brought to the screen the travel journal of Ernesto Guevara, the man who would become the famed revolutionary Che Guevara. But in the film, Guevara (Gael García Bernal) is just a young man taking an epic trip with his best friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna). Shot on location throughout South America, the film captures the beauty of the land and its people as well as the wonderment of a narrator seeing everything for the first time. The film, according to The New York Times, “unabashedly revives the venerable, romantic notion that travel can enlarge the soul, and even change the world.”

Romancing the Stone (1984)

"Joan Wilder, a mousy romance novelist, receives a treasure map in the mail from her recently murdered brother-in-law. Meanwhile, her sister Elaine is kidnapped in Colombia and the two criminals responsible demand that she travel to Colombia to exchange the map for her sister. Joan does, and quickly becomes lost in the jungle after being waylayed by Zolo, a vicious and corrupt Colombian cop who will stop at nothing to obtain the map. There, she meets an irreverent soldier-of-fortune named Jack Colton who agrees to bring her back to civilization. Together, they embark upon an adventure that could be straight out of Joan's novels."

Like Water for Chocolate (1992)

"In a forgotten Mexico village Tita and Pedro fall in love, but their marriage is forbidden as to traditions. Mother Elena sees Tita's role as her caretaker for life; no youngest daughter has ever married, and her daughter will not be the first to break tradition. Tita's heart breaks when her mother offers Pedro her sister instead of her, and he accepted it just to live near Tita, he says. Now they live in the same house, and mother Elena cannot forbid their love as she did their marriage."
