Have you ever thought about making your own laundry detergent to eliminate all those nasty chemicals in commercially made detergents? It's a great way to save money and be in control of what goes on your clothes—especially if you have sensitive skin or little ones at home. The article How to Make Natural Laundry Detergent in 2 Minutes from Natural Living Ideas explains how to make your own detergent with just three ingredients that will work in high-efficiency washing machines.

Ingredients

ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS: Borax is a naturally occurring mineral that contains sodium, boron, oxygen and water. It is a safe and effective cleaning alternative to many conventional cleaners. Washing soda is made from salt and limestone or found as natural deposits. It's a natural laundry booster that helps lift tough stains from clothes. Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap is fair trade vegetable Castile soap with pure organic oils.

Step 1: Grate the Bar of Soap

Grate the entire bar of Castile soap with a cheese grater and dump it into a large container, like a glass jar.

Step 2: Add Washing Soda + Borax

Add 2 cups of borax and 2 cups of washing soda. Place the lid on the jar and shake until blended. Voila! Use 1/4 cup of laundry detergent per small load of laundry.
