Augusta’s Leading Women

Be inspired by the women making a difference in our community

Strong and courageous women permeate Augusta’s society…. More women than we could ever spotlight in a million magazine issues! This month, we have narrowed it down to four outstanding women who touch lives in our community through public service, education, and private business.

Mayreather Willis

Founder & Principal, Challenge Preparatory Academy

“It's been a lifelong dream to come into a space where I could serve kids who didn't fit in or didn't feel that their home was their community or their neighborhood,” says Mayreather. “When those kids come into Challenge Preparatory Academy, they feel a part of a community and accepted for who they are. Our mission is to be a school where learning is experienced and where kids learn by doing, seeing, and interacting.” Challenge Preparatory Academy provides small class sizes, individualized learning plans, and experience-based educational opportunities for students 5th-8th grade.

As a seasoned esthetician with 22 years of experience, Christy uses her passion and knowledge to help clients look and feel their best, creating personalized holistic treatment plans to help aid in the correction of acne, rosacea, and damaged skin. By incorporating mostly non-invasive services for face and body along with medical grade skin care products, age reversal is achieved in some instances. Christy shares, “Our holistic approach offers people a way to learn more about being confident in themselves and about what's going on in their body/with their skin while bringing harmony and balance back into the body.”

Catherine Smith McKnight

Augusta Commission, Representing District 3

Following in the footsteps of her father, Grady Smith, Catherine strives to enhance daily life for citizens of Augusta by representing them on the local level and seeking to improve the city she loves. “When I come in on an airplane back into Augusta and land at Augusta Regional, it’s the most warm and inviting place. It's just a good feeling of being home and I want to preserve that for our children,” says Catherine. “We can do that by working together to improve infrastructure and address other issues. I love this town and I want to see it flourish.”

Catherine represents Augusta Commission District 3 and can be contacted by email CMcKnight@augustaga.gov or by phone at (706) 834 -1082.
