Selling a home in today's market? Seems like a no-brainer. But in truth, selling a home in any market takes strategy and style, and married couple Shawna and Wes Morales of ENGEL & VÖLKERS know that a well staged home can bring the right buyer to their dream property. 

Shawna, what got you into real estate? Furthermore, what do you love about being a real estate agent in Billings?

I have always loved architecture and design but I also love meeting new people. My career as a real estate agent combines both. I have the privilege of seeing beautiful properties as both a sellers agent and buyers agent. I get to know my clients and their families and develop relationships that transcend a real estate transaction.

You have a gorgeous listing on Gregory Drive. Gorgeous with a capital G! What's your favorite thing about this property and something that a potential home buyer would enjoy? 

This listing is the definition of luxury!  My favorite part of this property is the outdoor living space.  When you walk out of the home and into the outdoor space, you are transported to a resort in your own backyard. The saltwater pool, covered hot tub, lounging area, and quiet surroundings truly make you feel like you have left Montana.

It's true that you work closely with your husband who is an interior designer. Tell us what that's like and how a 'best dressed' home comes to fruition/meets your vision.

Wes is truly the designed behind all of my listings. When he walks into a home that we are getting ready to list the vision just comes to him. He brings everything together from the furniture to the accessories to the floral arrangements. He does it all!

What's something you wish you could broadcast to every home buyer?

My best advice to someone looking to buy a home is to work with someone you trust. You want your best interests at the forefront of their mind and not how quickly they can get you under contract. Make sure you are truly getting what you want in your next home.

When someone is wanting to sell their home, what's your golden piece of advice?

If you want your home to be sold quickly and for top dollar, stage it. As part of my listing package I include staging for all of my clients. If nothing else, the home needs to be decluttered.  Pack away as much of your personal items as you can to allow the buyer to see your home and not your personal items. Statistics show that properties that are staged sell quicker and at a higher price point. It matters who you work with!

Wes, interior design is such an art form. It's transformational really. What do you love most about your profession?

For me, the best part of what I do is seeing the homeowner’s reaction when I’m finished staging their home to sell. The client immediately sees the value and their home is presented in the best possible way to attract the most buyers.

Lastly, tell us about how passion plays a role in your success (as both a real estate agent and as an interior designer). 

Wes and I love what we do and we love that we get to do it together. We both have high expectations for ourselves and each other.
