From Bentleys to Jaguars, Land Rovers to Mini Coopers, some of the coolest automobiles ever have been designed and made in Britain. Many of these favorites have been featured on the big screen and selected by the most renowned names in Hollywood for their rich history and timeless style. Since production began in the early to mid-1900s, their unwavering record of hand craftsmanship is distinctive in the models from ultra-luxury brands such as Aston-Martin and Rolls-Royce. Across the decades, design classics like the Mini Cooper S have become pop culture icons and continue to be loved by today’s Mini owners.
The British identity has been well-preserved in the modern-day models. Not only is their style unparalleled, but they elevate basic function to nearly an art form. These luxury brands come with innovative car engineering, show-stopping power, extravagant accessories, and are fully integrated with the most advanced technologies, such as touchscreen infotainment systems and fingerprint access storage compartments.
Whether your passion is for classic or contemporary cars, the Central Virginia British Car Club (CVBCC) offers something for everyone. This members-only club is dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and family enjoyment of British motorcars, trucks, and motorcycles. Since its founding in 1984, CVBCC has grown rapidly. Its 250 members are actively involved both within the club and the greater car enthusiasts’ community sharing their expertise and experiences with classic and contemporary British automobiles.
Members are encouraged to attend the annual tech session led by mechanic and British car specialist, Bruce Woodson, which covers topics like wiring in old British cars, how to take care of the paint on your car, and how to rebuild an engine. Bruce is highly regarded nationwide among classic British car enthusiasts and has led numerous roles at CVBCC with his wife, Carol, who serves as Club Secretary. These meetings are opportunities to learn and share vehicle repair and maintenance advice with other members and bring a sense of camaraderie to the group. Further support is available through the club’s members-only online portal.
CVBCC hosts numerous fun runs, drives, displays, and participates in car shows year-round. They also engage in other events throughout the Commonwealth, such as the biweekly Cars & Coffee – Richmond event at Regency Square Mall that Short Pump Lifestyle recently attended. In nice weather, more than 400 cars of all types and years may show up and be on display. Cars and Coffee hosts the annual Trunk-or-Treat in October and the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Drive in December, both CVBCC community favorites. Another popular event with members is the Richmond Collector Car Show and Swap Meet, which is hosted by the Richmond Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA).
