Midtown ladies are ever-evolving. It’s a city where eclectic is a compliment and clothes can both have city vibes and country comfort.
This fall, Midtown Lifestyle stopped by South Moon Under for the latest inspiration. The boutique in Ponce City Market is known for carrying constantly changing products to be discovered and a unique mix of in-house brands. Tour guide and South Moon Under fashionista Carly Vaseleck gave us a sneak peek of changing colors and led us through fall feelings—literally. We couldn’t stop touching the fabric and textures!
Fall 2018 Trends:
Human Nature: Revolt against data and screens and return to natural elements and the outdoors. Reach for textiles that offer a handspun feel with organic materials, tactile surfaces and textured sweaters. Key colors in this group are sage greens, rust, wine and gray.
Throwback-Inspired: The '70s were part of rebellion and strength marked by strong fashion statements. References to this decade flourish today in suiting, menswear plaid, flare bottoms, turtlenecks and shearling outerwear.
Changing Colors: Some colors scream fall, while others need to change like the leaves. Pink can carry into fall when paired with marigold, yellow should transition to mustard and purple evolves to deeper blue tones and burnt aborigines.
Print Power: Try a print to feel bold. Menswear plaids, bold graphic stripes, geometric non-print prints, modern bohemian patchwork and paisleys, dark grounded florals and textures in sweater yarns offset basic pieces.
Cover Up: The key silhouette of the past few seasons, the off-the-shoulder top, is down trending and is replaced with interest and details in the sleeve. Wrap tops, relaxed shirting and back detail are providing newness in tops and sweaters. Basic silhouettes are updated with details such as smocking, ties, buttons, lace-up and ruffles/tiers.
Leggy Ladies: Leg shapes are starting to change, and the reliance on skinny silhouettes are slowing declining as the trend moves to wider leg shapes. Rises continue to get higher, so think vintage-inspired fits and washes for denim styles.
