When former New York fashion merchant Voltaire Blain opened his shoe boutique two years ago on a great block of Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill, he fulfilled several of his personal dreams. The first was becoming a fashion-conscious advocate of really well-made shoes. The second was to be the first to display shoes on a full-size pool table. And the third was to join his wife, a native of Chestnut Hill, in settling into a picturesque but family-friendly city.
Specializing in providing "not a typical shoe store," Voltaire wants customers to feel assured and comfortable. They can receive fittings, or Voltaire now helps people determine sizes over the phone or through videoconferences.
He carries loafers and Oxfords, as well as low- and high-cut boots, ranging in price from $300 to $1,300. He proudly offers Alden, Gaziano & Girling and Paraboot; some of which are his own designs.
Ask Voltaire about unique neckwear, fine socks, accessories, custom shirts and suits, too.
