“I am a third-generation dentist and fourth-generation in the health care field; my great-grandfather was a medical doctor who practiced in the same office in Hampstead, where my other dental office is located,” says Dr. Resh.

“Before dentistry, I worked in a microbiology lab for several years, but I missed interacting with people.  I saw through the years that my father was very happy with his work as a general dentist. On vacation, he would even read dental magazines on the beach,” says Dr. Resh, with a laugh. “So, because he would come home having enjoyed his day at work, especially his interaction with the patients, I became a dentist, and I have found that it is the same for me as my dad. I enjoy my time with the patients. I enjoy getting to know them and finding out about their lives and families.”

Dr. Resh’s colleague, Dr. Amanda Hurley, can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to be a dentist. “My desire to become a dentist began early on in life. My experience wearing orthodontics piqued my interest,” says Dr. Hurley. “I am from Wisconsin and studied at Marquette, where I dove right into dentistry.”

Dr. Hurley was confident with her career choice because she had volunteered extensively in various aspects of dentistry, notably service dentistry, both locally and internationally. She enjoys being part of Fresh Dental Group and is looking forward to engaging in service projects that Fresh Dental is planning in the near future.
She says, “In the summers, I dental assisted in my hometown, so I practically trained on the job. I have been a dental assistant, a dental student, and then, a practicing student. I feel like dentistry has been a big part of my life throughout.”

“While in school, I volunteered to serve in free dental clinics in the Milwaukee area. I began to do dental mission work as an undergraduate, where we went to Honduras and Nicaragua and worked alongside practicing dentists. I continue to do service dentistry because the ability to help others is a big draw to me. As a practicing dentist, I wanted to continue to travel and serve, so three of us- me, a mentor and a friend started a trip on our own. We travel to Honduras each year; except this year, which was canceled because of COVID-19. The last time we went, we had 19 volunteers. I love that you can make a big difference in someone’s life. When you can make the pain go away, it is amazing,” says Dr. Hurley.

She continues, “The need is here, too. Even though we go to other countries to do dental work, the need is right here. Our patients walk in the door every week, and we can turn things around for them, get them out of pain, change their smile and boost their confidence. I really like that.”

Fresh Dental Group never want people to feel “just a number.” Dr. Resh explains, “We strive to make certain our patients do not feel that way. Dr. Hurley and I try to spend a little more time with our patients, getting to know them. Our goal is to go the extra mile making the patient feel comfortable, treating them less like patients and more like people.”

“In our practice, we are very focused on patient comfort,” says Dr. Hurley. “We know dentistry is a scary thing for many people, and we’re trying to change that. We want each person to feel comfortable and at home. Intending to take away the stigma of the trip to the dentist, we treat them well and take good care of them while they’re here. In the past, treatments were a result of reactive dentistry, fixing what was in bad shape. But in today’s world, we practice preventative dentistry, which is a good shift because we want to stop those oral problems from occurring. Taking impressions with digital scans and performing complicated surgical procedures, like implants, are made simple by using a 3D x-ray and digital planning. These technologies have made it so fun for me and so safe and much more comfortable for the patients.”

Dr. Hurley continues, “Not only does our office have a spa-like environment, but we are also very hi-tech. Everything we have is digital and is at the forefront of the latest technology. As I mentioned before, we utilize a 3D x-ray for implant surgery. It fully guides us so that we know exactly where to put the implant from the surgical beginning to the end.”

Dr. Resh says, “In addition to our dental side, we have added a cosmetic enhancement component. As general dentists, beyond simply root canals and cleanings, we can offer everything from clear aligners to implants and veneers. We have also begun to provide Juvederm, fillers, Botox and Cryoskin facials. Offering these treatments means that our patients don’t have to go anywhere else to enhance and complement their whole smile. We want to be the one place where they get everything.” FreshDentistry.com
