Winter is a wonderful time for binge-watching TV shows, cuddling up with pets and playing board games with your family. But, winter also brings some unique activities to do too!

If you get a little stir crazy in the winter and need to get out and do something physical, here are some super fun things you can do with your family that you don't have to travel to Colorado for.

Ice Skating

We have several places to go ice skating in Kansas City, so no matter where you live, there's a rink just a short drive away. Ice skating is a great full-body workout because you use your legs to move, your core to stay balanced and your arms to catch yourself if you start to tumble. It's a great bonding activity for the family, and you can work on building trust by skating all together holding hands!

My favorite place to skate is the Crown Center Ice Terrace because you can make a whole day of it and do some shopping too. If you have your kiddos with you, make sure you eat at Fritz's where they deliver your food to your table with a miniature train that runs on a track all around the restaurant. My parents took me there many times when I was a kid, and I still love to go back for the nostalgia.

Snow Tubing

Did you know we have our own ski slopes right here in Missouri? Snow Creek is a ski resort in Weston, Missouri, just about 45 minutes away from downtown Kansas City. I don't have any skiing experience, so my favorite thing to do there is tubing!

Tubing is like sledding, but you have a much bigger hill, and you can get going much faster. This is another great family activity because all you have to do is sit down and hold on. There is even a conveyor carpet that takes you and your tube all the way back to the top, so you don't have the dreaded hike that you get with sledding, and you can ride down the slope more times without tuckering out.

If you go on a Thursday, the rate is $20 per person for two hours, or it is $28 per person on weekends. If you're in it for the long haul, it is $30 for four hours on Thursdays and $45 on weekends.

If you've never gone tubing before, maybe you make 2020 your year to try new activities and spend a little more time outdoors. It's great for your body, and it can create lasting memories for you and your kids.
