Ways to Cope with Being Quarantined

WHAT I AM DOING TO PASS THE TIME

If you are like me, you are probably going a little stir crazy right about now. I don't mind staying home, but I am certainly not used to working from home, working out from home and basically being home 24/7. I think it's a weird concept for most of us. Trying to wrap my head around all of this too, I will admit I have had a couple of breakdowns. But I am making progress and wanted to share some ways to cope with being quarantined. And what I am doing to make the best of everything.

FaceTime/Zoom with Friends and Family

This is a life saver! If you have others that have an iphone, facetime is the way to go. It's super easy to use and you can have a clear connection. If you have multiple people and some that do not have an iphone, you can download Zoom for free. It's used mostly for business or probably was, but a good app to use for multiple people to video and talk with one another. You can host 40 minute meetings for free and then just keep adding additional meetings if you need - super easy and simple to use!

Virtual Brunch or Virtual Happy Hour

My friends and I are big brunchers and happy hour goers - so needless to say this has been rough. We decided to all get together on Friday night for a happy hour and then on Sunday for brunch. Cut to two hours later - it was a great time! It helped lift my spirits to actually still be able to interact with everyone and be somewhat like "normal" times. For brunch, we all sat around with our mimosas, some made breakfast and just chatted and played some games. Highly recommend doing something like this! One of my favorites ways to cope being quarantined!

HouseParty App

While at our "virtual brunch" we decided to download the app, Houseparty. I've heard a few things about recently and it made it super easy for us to still be on video chat. It also has games associated with it and you can play it all virtually with one another or as a big group. We were able to play heads up, and apples to apples - it was a blast! I think we spent two hours on it alone and probably will again next weekend!

Online Home Workout

I am used to working out at Orange Theory Fitness at least 3 to 4 times a week - so not being able to go to a gym has been tough. I think most people are feeling the same way. Orange Theory has been putting out a 30 minute workout each day. I have done it a couple of times. Obviously, not the same as being there, but it definitely helps!

I also have been doing some HIT workouts and weight workouts from Sydney Cummings. She has a ton of 40 minute workouts on Youtube that are super hard! My mom and I have been facetiming in the morning to hold ourselves accountable during the workouts. I would definitely suggest this as another option as well! Makes working out from home a little more enjoyable when you have a friend or family member with you.

Go for a Walk

Hopefully your weather is nice! We are definitely spoiled in Arizona and I am so thankful some 75 degree and sunny temps and have been taking full advantage of it. After working from home all day, my husband and I take our dog out for a long walk. Sometimes we do a hike behind our house and sometimes we just walk around the neighborhood. We are certainly careful to keep our 6-8 feet of distance between other people, but it's just so nice to get outside and breathe in some fresh air. This has been helping keeping me sane and even sparked a new love for hiking!

Get Dressed

Simple idea, but I'm telling you - it helps! Whether you are working normal hours from home, or are just home, taking a shower, doing your hair, putting on makeup and real clothes is a game changer! Some days, I don't get fully ready, but I manage to change out my pajamas and it helps make this whole new life feel more normal. Doesn't need to be every day, but if you need a little pick me up, I would give it a whirl!

Those are just some ways to cope with being quarantined, aside from watching hours on hours of Netflix, which I know we are all doing too! I hope you are enjoying some quality time at home and taking it day by day. That's what I'm trying to do! If you have any other tips on what you are doing at home to help pass the time, please share. We are all in this together! Stay home and healthy friends!
