Growing up in Arkansas between two homes that were essentially shacks, Dr. Sonja Stribling of Sandy Springs, was one of 12 children, the daughter of a sharecropper and a housekeeper.
“Money was something my family did not have a lot of growing up, so joining the military seemed like an incredible way to learn important life lessons and receive financial stability,” she says.
A single mother at 15, she determined that the army was the natural step to security and stability. “Providing for my children was of the utmost importance to me. I had all this emotion pent up from my past, and the military helped me express how I felt.”
After 21 years of service, she retired as an Army Major. “I knew I needed more in life when I left the Army,” she says. So Dr. Sonja took her personal story public on social media, sharing the details around becoming a young mom, the trauma of being raped, her experience going through a financially and emotionally difficult divorce, and struggling with her mental health. The concepts of wanting more from life and serving others were notions she couldn’t shake and so she began her flourishing career, helping women ascend to the next level in all aspects of their lives.
“My goal is to help everyone realize that no matter what cards life has thrown at you, you can’t let life stand in the way of your dreams.”
Dr. Sonja is a new resident of Sandy Springs and a longtime resident of Atlanta. She is on a mission to elevate the way women think, and appreciate their self-worth. As a Certified Life and Business Coach and past recipient of the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award under President Barack Obama, she is one of the most sought after keynote speakers around the world and has coached and mentored over 300,000 women. Last year, she assisted local business owners, whose brick and mortars were closed in lockdowns, pivot to the online space and flourish. In the Sandy Springs area, Dr. Sonja works with attorneys, hair stylists, real estate agents, executive leaders, and stay-at-home- mom relationship coaches to help them build coaching and speaking businesses.
Dr. Sonja encourages businesswomen to find their voice and inner power by leveraging their past to understand how it can shape their future. She truly has dedicated her life’s work to guiding others to discover their inner P.O.W.E.R (Possibilities, Opportunities, Wealth, Worth, & Wellbeing, Excellence and Responsibility), and navigate strategic ways to help women scale their business to six and seven figures. This is Dr. Sonja’s pride and joy. She believes that “when you put in the work to reach higher levels of personal success, there is no glass ceiling that cannot be broken.”
Fulfilling one of her own lifelong goals, she recently bought her dream home in Sandy Springs and has been exploring the area. She has fallen in love with strolls around Chastain Park, and enjoys the nature that surrounds her. Still nesting in her new home, she thoroughly enjoys the outdoors, relaxing by the pool with her three sons after attending church services at either Eagle’s Nest or Newbirth Baptist Church. Egg Harbor Cafe is always the immediate stop for Sunday brunch before or after their Sunday worship, but you can also find her enjoying some incredible french cuisine at Le Bilboquet and The Chastain in the heart of Atlanta.
