Keeping your wine bottles on the kitchen counter and your glasses in the kitchen cabinets takes up valuable space. If you're a serious wine drinker, it's time to upgrade to a designated wine bottle and stemware rack that hangs on the wall. In the article Wine Bottle and Stemware Rack, Jen Woodhouse demonstrates how to build a chic, minimalist wine storage piece inspired by Crate and Barrel.

Step 1: Cut out the stemware slots using a jigsaw

Step 2: Attach Back

Drill 3/4″ pocket holes into the back board facing down and use 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws to attach it to the stemware rack.

Step 3: Attach 1x2 Sides

Attach the 1×2 side pieces with 3/4″ pocket holes and 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. Attach the 1×2 to the stemware rack with 1-1/4″ brad nails nailed from underneath.

Step 4: Attach Ledge

Drill 3/4″ pocket holes into the 1×4 ledge and attach it to the back with 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. You can also nail in 1-1/4″ brad nails on top to attach the ledge to the 1×2 sides.

Step 5: Attach 1x4 Sides

Drill 3/4″ pocket holes into the 1×4 sides and attach it to the back with 1-1/4″ pocket hole screws. Use glue on the joint where it meets the ledge.

Step 6: Attach Front

Pre-drill countersunk pilot holes into the front board and attach with 1-1/4″ wood screws. Fill the holes with wood putty or wood plugs.

Step 7: Hang Your Masterpiece

Jen recommends using D-ring hangers to attach the wine rack to the wall.
