July is for Pie

Tiny Pies - Austin's Sweet Treat

Amanda Wadsworth, owner of Tiny Pies®, is the 4th generation baker in her family.  Spending days at her mother Kit’s side, she learned the treasured family baking traditions. Her son, Andrew, first introduced the idea of a pie he “could eat with his hands." Andrew hoped to take apple pie to school. Amanda knew this was a messy idea. Her solution worked, Tiny Pies®  was born.  Kit’s not-so-tiny 9” Flag Pie, chock full of blueberry and cherry filling, is a 4th of July tradition at Tiny Pies®.  All Tiny Pies® include fresh ingredients and are handmade daily. One bite and this pie is sure to become a tradition in your family too.

Tiny Pies July 4th Flag Pie Crust and Decorations

Ingredients:

Your favorite 9” pie crust or tart shell. Tiny Pies crusts are also available to purchase in-store.

Star-shaped cookie cutter and a pastry cutter or knife

Extra crust approximately 9” round to create the “stripes”

Your favorite blueberry and cherry pie filling

Directions:

1. Pour blueberry filling into top left of pie crust

2. Pour the cherry filling into the remaining part of the pie crust, to the right of the blueberry filling.

3. Cut out about 9 stars (exact number depends on size of cookie cutter) out of pie crust and place over the blueberry filling

4. Cut the extra top crust into wavy strips approximately 1 inch wide. The length of the strips will be determined by the round shape of the top crust.

4. Lay pie crust “stripes” over the rest of the pie to look like the stripes on the American flag

5.The dough will have warmed slightly from working with it. Allow it to chill in the freezer to set until firm, approximately 10-15 minutes.

6. Bake in a 375℉ conventional oven for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Continue baking until juices bubble thickly and crust is deep golden, covering edges with foil if browning too quickly, about 1 hour 20 minutes.

7.Cool on rack 1 hour. (Can be made 8 hours ahead. Let stand on rack.)
