Midlothian Lifestyle recently hosted "Patio Party with a Purpose" in partnership with Greer Jones Properties and Coastal Patio Furniture. Greer Jones generously opened up her home for this fundraising event, which included a silent auction, drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and a poolside pop-up by Glow Envy Med Spa. Proceeds from the evening benefitted Healing TREE (Trauma Resources, Education & Entertainment) nonprofit.
While enjoying the beautiful summer evening, Matt Bricker of Coastal Patio Furniture shared how their products can enhance your outdoor living experience and support a meaningful cause.
LAUREL: WHY DID YOU START COASTAL PATIO FURNITURE?
MATT: In 2016 I was living here in Virginia as a professional firefighter. One day while I was at the dump, I noticed a dumpster full of patio furniture. I asked the attendant if it all got recycled and he said some of it does, but most gets crushed and thrown into a landfill. That was when the light bulb in my head went on. By November 2017, Coastal Patio Furniture was born. I am proud to say that we have saved approximately 300+ furniture sets from going to a landfill.
LAUREL: WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COASTAL PATIO FURNITURE?
MATT: There are so many things that I love about this business. Every day when I start working, I feel like a kid again back in my aunt’s patio furniture repair shop in Florida. All the great memories come rushing back to me from summers years ago. Also, I get to meet and work with some truly amazing people and clients every day. The greatest part, though, is working alongside my wife and children. I am grateful that I get to spend time with them and teach my children a trade that I was taught.

MATT: Why should you still use the same worn out patio furniture with dated colors that looked good 15 years ago? We work with our clients to determine the colors and designs that will best fit their updated outdoor space.

LAUREL: DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS FOR SELECTING THE PRODUCTS OFFERED AT COASTAL PATIO FURNITURE.
MATT: Clients contact us when their patio furniture breaks, rips, or becomes unusable and needs immediate attention. We have them email us pictures and a brief description of what is needing to be repaired or restored. We analyze what style, brand, model, and condition it is in. Then, we notify them if we can repair/restore and provide a quote. It is our moral duty to inform clients if it will NOT be cost-effective to repair vs. replace their current furniture.
LAUREL: WHY IS HEALING TREE NONPROFIT AN IMPORTANT CAUSE TO YOU?
MATT: So many people suffer with mental health problems, but do not reach out. I am proud to be a part of the movement to normalize speaking out, reaching out, and getting help.
LAUREL: HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH HEALING TREE?
MATT: I came across this organization while I was going to therapy. I realized how powerful this nonprofit is and will be in the future, so I contacted the founder, Marissa Ghavami, to learn more. We spent hours talking about our past struggles and road to recovery. I was blown away by how she was incorporating the issues that people face every day in the films that she was acting in and directing. As a huge movie buff, myself, I knew this was going to be extremely powerful and impactful to this generation. I told Marissa I want to help!
Healing TREE provides trauma-focused resources and education to those in need. They also produce and partner with relevant film, television, and theatre to empower the social change necessary to create individual and societal healing. REPAIR AND RESTORATION SERVICES BY COASTAL PATIO FURNITURE
Sling replacement:
We use only high-quality, heavy duty, vinyl coated, polyester fabric for use on commercial and residential outdoor furniture that are UV protected and help kill mold and mildew. Our thread that we use is outdoor rated and some of the strongest on the market so you can feel comfortable for many years without having to worry about them degrading. Our sling construction is so unique and long lasting that we protect them with a 3-year warranty.
Vinyl strapping:
We use 100% virgin vinyl that has zero impurities integrated in it so you will have strapping that will last for years. We custom cut and install every strap on your chair to make a perfect fit. We implement a double wrap process on our strap installation to better secure the vinyl and lessen the tension on the frame and grommet.
Frame refinishing:
We disassemble all of the furniture that is to be refinished by removing all of the non-metal items, from plastic feet to fiberglass rocker plates. Once we have all of those removed, they are delivered to a metal refinisher that we have properly vetted to sandblast and powder coat all the metal components. After a new finish is applied, we reassemble it with new parts.
Weld repair:
We have licensed and certified welders and metal fabricators that can repair small cracks to complete fabrication of all metal components on your outdoor furniture. All of our welds are reinforced and built stronger than before.
New replacement parts:
We use multiple vendors and have access to hundreds of replacement pieces and parts for all the leading brands of outdoor furniture. Swivel chair not turning? Rocking chair not rocking? Missing or have a broken bolt? End caps gone? Feet on a chair or table ground down? We will take care of all of that!
Teak restoration:
Teak furniture is gorgeous but does require regular maintenance. When it comes to teak, we can bring it back to its original color by properly cleaning, brightening the wood, sanding when needed, and applying oil or sealer to protect the grain and color.
