Which Brixx Wins?

There's a pizza place in town where young diners can trace an outline around one hand on a piece of paper while trying to hold a piece of delicious cheesy pie in the other. It's a perfect place to sit on the patio during autumn, catching a slight breeze, while basking in a crisp, clean fall football-type of day or evening. Pizza is an obsession many people share. 

In the case of Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, now operating partner Eric Horsley had the idea that the love of great pizza with good beer was universal. He shared that concept with then-future Managing Partners Jeff Van Dyke and Barbara Bodford-Morgan. Together, the three conceived a restaurant approach that applied fine dining techniques and quality to casual, everyday food.

So, their goal was to keep the restaurant simple and fun, but with splashes of unique style and cooking with fire. Thus, Brixx Pizza was born. They also bake focaccia bread each day for their sandwiches.

The Brixx crew in Green Hills said they embrace how inventive customers can be with pizza, appealing to a wide range of palates and dietary needs. In fact, they offer vegan and vegetarian options, whole-wheat crust and gluten-free menu items. 

By also offering local and national craft beers and microbrews with a great wine selection, Brixx provides a fresh alternative to “pizza and beer.”

The first Brixx Wood Fired Pizza opened in 1998, and they've been operating as caring community spots since. They give back by sponsoring local and national charities or raise money for schools, churches or clubs through the Brixx Buxx program.

Though Brixx offers something for everyone on their menu, Green Hills Lifestyle thought it'd be fun to have a few local secret judges to taste a few house favorites side-by-side for comparison in an attempt to answer the question of which one is a fall favorite. So, Green Hills Lifestyle recently pitted pizza against pizza at Brixx Green Hills, with the hope of choosing one as a winning combination and flavor. Among the contenders were:

  • BBQ Chicken – Oven-roasted chicken with barbecue sauce, smoked gouda, mozzarella and red onion topped with fresh cilantro
  • Hawaiian – Fresh pineapple, prosciutto and mozzarella on an olive oil base and topped with fresh cilantro
  • Sweet Thai Chicken – Oven-roasted chicken tossed in sweet chili sauce, with goat cheese, mozzarella, roasted red peppers and pistachios drizzled with Thai peanut satay sauce
  • Mexican – Black bean spread base with mozzarella and cheddar, oven-roasted chicken, Roma tomatoes and sliced fresh jalapeños topped with sour cream
  • Rustica – Prosciutto, mozzarella, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives and roasted garlic on an olive oil base
  • Spicy Shrimp – Spicy shrimp on a sriracha base with sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, goat cheese & fresh basil
  • Chicken Florentine – Oven-roasted chicken, crumbled bacon, Roma tomatoes, spinach, feta and mozzarella on an olive oil base
  • Sausage & Spicy Honey – Signature spicy sausage crumbled over a four-cheese blend and our house recipe tomato sauce baked, then drizzled with sriracha-infused honey
  • Pear & Gorgonzola – Sliced pears, mozzarella, gorgonzola, walnuts and caramelized onions on an olive oil base
  • Margherita – Fresh, house-made mozzarella, Roma tomatoes and fresh basil on an olive oil base

And the winner is... Rustica!
