Purpose in the Process

Susie Silver's Art is an Escape from Life's Everyday Noise

Even as a toddler, contemporary abstract mixed-media artist Susie Silver remembers needing nothing but “some french fries and a paintbrush,” she says. Her love for art has continued ever since.

Susie, a coach and educator who lives in Cary, received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Alfred University and has studied at Studio Arts International in Florence, Italy, and the famed Penland School of Crafts in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. She has also spent 16 years as the visual arts teacher at Cary High School.

But even Susie faltered in her artistic journey for a period of time when she first became a teacher. She has since returned to her work with a renewed sense of self. Today, she strives to give people a moment away from all of their everyday noise.

“I want people to take away a moment of something that is beautiful,” she says.
