Room at the Inn

Focus is Local at The Way Home

By now, you’ve probably heard about The Way Home, one of Carbondale’s most talked-about new restaurants. But, did you also know that the owners (Kade Gianinetti, Lacy Hughes, and Flip Wise) also extend their hospitality by offering two thoughtfully renovated hotel rooms on the restaurant’s second floor?

Christened “Sopris” and “Red Hill” after the landmarks visible from the windows, each room, across a narrow hallway from one another, reflects the philosophy of rustic minimalism. Thanks to Dave Cardiff Construction of Carbondale and Scout Interiors of Denver, you’ll only find clean lines, simple well-built furniture, and uncomplicated decor.

Although the layout of the rooms varies a bit, they’re outfitted similarly with king-sized beds, custom-made couches with futon mattresses (which can double as a bed for a third person), straightforward desks, spacious bathrooms, and plenty of dresser and closet areas. All this is within a backdrop of soothing green-gray walls, with accents of muted brass bed frames and light fixtures, as well as deep red area rugs. The interior design brings to mind the era in which the historic property was built (1903), yet it still feels right at home in the 21st century.

Since the restaurant opens its doors at 5 p.m., guests can use key-code access until 4 p.m. to also enjoy the downstairs front room with its large dining table, or relax next door in the cozy sitting room. If you’d rather venture outside to explore the town, the trails, or the nearby ski slopes, then all it takes is reaching out to hotel and event manager, Jes Tilton.

In fact, once a booking is made, Tilton will get in touch with you to find out why you’re coming into Carbondale. Whether it’s for hiking, skiing, or getting-awaying, local recommendations are available if requested. According to Tilton, “It’s all about building community.” This goal is the red thread that ties together the entire endeavor at The Way Home.

Whether through food, through accommodations, or through personal concierge recommendations, the team welcomes strangers and Roaring Fork Valley locals alike to Carbondale. So, after a birthday dinner, an anniversary toast, or for just a well-earned weekend away, you can round off the evening by heading up one flight of stairs to sweet dreams.
