Celebrating the Art of Good Taste at this Month's Culinary Art Festival

“Presenting a meal is a work of art,” says Judy O’Donnell. “The ingredients, the preparation of the foods, and serving it all with a wine or beer is special. What we want people to experience at this event is how food and beverages can be part of ‘the art of living.’”

As a member of the Glenwood Springs Arts Council and chair of its October 25 Culinary Art Festival, O’Donnell has helped arrange for top local restaurants and beverage vendors to serve up tasty victuals and libations in support of the organization’s programs. She adds that the fundraiser was first held in 1999 and, although it skipped a year in 2017, has long been considered by many to be “the most anticipated downvalley event of autumn.”

“By this time of year, people are all back in town after their busy summers and they’re happy to see each other,” she says. “The festival is just a great reason to get together.”

It also happens to be a gastronome’s paradise. For anyone who even remotely identifies as a foodie, the event offers an opportunity to sample a sumptuous kaleidoscope of flavors: think fresh and creative from The Pullman, warm and aromatic from Masala & Curry, and sweet and decadent from Sunshine & Moons bakery. There will be no shortage of beverages either, with tastings provided by Boulder’s Upslope Brewing Company, Denver’s CTS Distributing, Glenwood’s own Casey Brewing, and more.

The best part? Tastings are unlimited.

“Everyone will have plenty to eat and drink,” O’Donnell says. “There’s no doubt about that.”

As guests mingle and munch their way around the Hotel Colorado’s freshly renovated Devereux Room, valley favorite Let Them Roar will play a lively selection of their progressive-folk tunes. Attendees can also bid on arts-themed silent auction items, including date night packages and works by Alice Beauchamp, Scott Gerdes, Mary Noone, Andrew Roberts-Gray, Alice Bedard Voorhees, Ellen Zagoras, and other regional artists.

Proceeds benefit the council’s wide range of year-round offerings, including children’s summer camps, adult classes, professional art exhibits, concerts, and more. For tickets and details, visit GlenwoodArts.org.
