Steakhouses for Dad

From myth to reality

What is it about men and steakhouses? Could the myth about cowboys wildly roaming the prairies, stopping to rest around a fire, and cooking a piece of meat to replenish their tired bodies impressed masculine imagination? Many steakhouses transcend the myth creating a sophisticated eating experience for meat lovers. Miami has always offered its residents a steakhouse option. With the area’s culinary expansion in the last twenty years, some exciting places abound, ranging from the ultra-sophistication to a fun-filled expression with a gamut in between, including Japanese grilling.

Michael Mina’s exquisite take on steakhouses includes Bourbon Steak at Turnberry and StripSteak at the Fontainbleau. Prime cuts of beef aged and grilled to perfection are the pieces-de-resistance. Don’t leave without sampling Bourbon Steak’s sides dishes, and its wine menu is ideal for pairings. StripSteak is a traditional steakhouse, its’ tantalizing prime cuts direct from their on-site aging room and an eclectic wine menu offers superb pairings.

Sunday’s Parrillada at Los Fuegos by Francis Mallman will keep you around the table, sharing stories and sampling delicious Argentine-style beef cooking for hours, perfect for a family gathering.

For fun, the Brazilian take on steakhouses cannot be topped. The new addition to that category is Coral Gable’s Fogo de Chão, and of course, their Miami Beach restaurant is equally fun and delicious. Make sure to flip the tag table on the red side when you’ve had enough, or the gauchos will bring more, on grilling beef, there’s KYU in Wynwood. The restaurant’s limited menu highlights long-time smoked brisket, fork-tender short ribs, and tasty beef marrow miso on toast points. KYU has an extensive cocktail and sake menu.
