Kansas City is experiencing a movement, and our place in the fashion world is one integral piece of our evolution!
For 15 seasons, Kansas City Fashion Week has hosted semi-annual events; one week showcasing fall/winter designs, and one spring/summer.
Dozens of up-and-coming, as well as established, designers interview to earn their spot at showing off their creations, including past seasons’ award winning and celeb-donning fashionistas like Rachel Roy and Andrew Clancey.
Now in its 16th season, September 15 marks the beginning of KCFW’s Spring/Summer 2020 Collections, and the week comes with a high profile, refined, and fun lineup of shopping events, cocktail parties, and four evening runway shows featuring over 20 designers who will display their talent on the Union Station runway.
As an attendee each season for the past two years, and a member of KCFW’s ‘Influencer Collective’ team, this is a time that continuously reminds me why Kansas City has a claim to fame as a fashion foundation dating back to the 1940s.
At that time, Kansas City was second to none other than New York City for its volume in garment manufacturing and distribution; hence the Garment District that still holds its namesake today. And, thanks to a highly talented and driven committee of fashion-minded professionals who have cumulatively brought back this celebratory affair, the deserving and impressive fashion designers deliver an amazing array of creations.
From edgy, unconventional, and street chic; to swanky, sleek, and classic ensembles, eye-capturing past collections have presented everything from fierce leather accents and wildly-styled rock star hair, to flashy and glitzy fabrics, earthy and oversized jewelry, and collections that appeal to the fashion-forward youth of America.
From gorgeous models and attendees of all shapes, sizes, colors, heights, and stylistic tastes, there is a lot of cosmopolitan eye candy right in the heart of Kansas City that arrives each season to take in the show, just reminding us of how gorgeous this city is, both architecturally and individually.
Leading up to the hype of this season, a mid-summer photo shoot at Kansas City’s Two Light Complex granted me some behind-the-scenes looks at KCFW’s designers and models. I soaked up all the sights and sensations that come along with the urban surroundings and jaw dropping views, and for a moment, I was transported to sunny, metropolitan Los Angeles as eighth story pool shots were going down, and stunning models inside and out were gorgeously smizing and styling some of the designers’ best past KC Fashion Week creations.
The talent KCFW attracts, from designers, models, stylists and more is extraordinary, and the brilliant photographers capturing these beautiful beings is not only breathtaking, but continuously elevates Kansas City's remarkable place on the lifestyle map. It never ceases to amaze me the creative talent it demands to earn your spot on the runway, and I am anxiously awaiting to see the finishing touches the participants are putting together to deliver one luxurious week of events!
