Our Local Businesses Need Us More Than Ever

Article by Katie Jenison & Tammy Jones

Originally published in Fargo Lifestyle

While we've all faced our own burdens due to the fallout of the coronavirus in recent months, it's safe to say businesses of all sizes are dealing with their own set of hardships. Many were forced to shutter their doors and found themselves unable to support themselves or their staff due to a loss in income. The shutdown, though relatively brief in the grand scheme of things, has had a significant impact on the small businesses in our community. These local businesses and small mom and pop shops are often hit the hardest, as they have fewer resources to get them through difficult times, and they need us now more than ever. It is our hope that we, as a community, can help them through the hard times. With that in mind, we wanted to share some of our favorite local businesses with you, as well as some tips on how you can support all the local companies that are the backbone of our community. Together, we are Fargo strong, and we can face anything, so long as we are here for one another.

Floor To Ceiling Carpet One

360 36th St S, Fargo

Since 1968, Floor to Ceiling Carpet One has been a beacon of design and style in the kitchen, bath, flooring, and window treatment industry. The company has been a go-to for custom cabinets, fine tile work, flooring, and a multitude of composites for different interior needs and styles and boasts several unique flooring guarantees under the Beautiful Guarantee® promise. Floor to Ceiling Carpet One takes pride in its exclusive brand offerings, expert craftsmanship, design services, warranties, and Healthier Living® flooring installation system, which delivers first-to-market antimicrobial installation system that inhibits allergens, mildew, mold, and dust. During this critical time in our world, it is so important to have healthier living options available in all aspects of our lives.

Waxing the City

4302 13th Ave S #15, Fargo

Fargo’s own Waxing the City is one of the top producing chains in the nation. Ranked at #5 in the nation and busier than a beehive, the company owns a proprietary wax compound only available in the salon. The unique wax compound is designed to wrap around each piece of hair to pull out the entire hair follicle. Fargo Lifestyle tested the wax compound out for and found the wax to be much different than commercially sold wax, as well as more beneficial than shaving. Research shows that it takes more than a single treatment to make waxing beneficial, and there is a hair follicle growth period similar to what you would normally schedule your head hair regrowth schedule. Overall, we found the results to be longer-lasting than shaving. Waxing the City is definitely one of the best options for all over body hair removal!

Wondering How You Can Help Our Local Businesses?

1. Tell your friends! Don’t be shy about sharing your favorite businesses in the community with your friends and family. Studies show consumers are more likely to purchase from a business after a referral from someone they know and trust.

2. Make an investment toward a future purchase. Buy gift cards now to use in-store or online at a later date. Whether it’s a gift card to your favorite restaurant in anticipation of an upcoming date night or to give to a friend for a big event, small business owners will appreciate the love.

3. Follow them on social media. With constantly changing algorithms, small businesses can always use a little help getting their content seen online. Larger followings and an engaged audience make it easier for them to get the word out about their business. Share their posts or leave a review!

4. Shop in-store. Sure, shopping from the comfort of your own home is always nice, but there’s something special about making an in-person visit. Many small shop owners love engaging with their customers, and you can’t beat the one-on-one help!

5. Attend events hosted by local businesses. Many businesses in our community partner with, or even host, fun events throughout the year. These pop-up events often offer a unique experience you wouldn’t get at a chain business and often include great deals.
