Why a creamery in Sandy Springs? It’s a long story, in fact, a long road, from a goat dairy in West Georgia to one of the most sophisticated cities near Atlanta.
The “why” we chose Sandy Springs as our home has many reasons. Location was the primary reason. Being located just off Roswell Road fulfilled the needs of so many aspects of our business. The first was the commute, as we live in Dunwoody and my children were attending Holy Innocents at the time – just five minutes from there. Our dairy provider was also on the east side of Atlanta, so it just made sense!
We found working with the City of Sandy Springs to be quite easy, although they did have some issues of how to classify a manufacturing food facility making cheese and attaching a retail store! Ultimately they made it work and we enjoyed ten amazing years in Sandy Springs. The other big plus to a location in Sandy Springs was the ability to easily distribute our products to all the best restaurants and hotels in Atlanta. That location and what we were doing introduced us to five-star restaurants and accounts, such as Williams Sonoma and Delta Airlines.
We have built great and lasting connections in Sandy Springs, not only with other businesses but with a very loyal base of customers. We cherished and enjoyed the support of organizations like Visit Sandy Springs, Heritage, and Sandy Springs Chamber of Commerce – their vibrant and enthusiastic interest in growing connections between businesses and the community is stellar. They are a huge part of why CalyRoad Creamery was so successful.
However, after 10 years in Sandy Springs, our journey has taken us to Newborn, Georgia and a new home at Rock House Creamery. We were given the opportunity to merge with our dairy milk provider at a time most difficult in 2020. The results of the pandemic and its effects on the economy severely affected out sales, but we are most grateful to have the opportunity to continue to make cheeses at Rock House and work together towards a new future. We still serve our loyal Sandy Springs and Atlanta customers but with greater capabilities for more products and more artisan cheeses!
