Since 1986, The Oar Steak and Seafood has been one of Patchogue’s top outdoor dining destinations. I had the opportunity to sit down with Lindsey Chalifoux to discuss what has sustained them throughout the years and what the future holds for The Oar. From its start as a small snack bar after hurricane Gloria to its evolution into a gourmet riverfront dining destination, The Oar truly is a special place for a meal or occasion through every season.
The quality and consistency in their cuisine are what keeps loyal customers coming back. Pictured is their signature Porterhouse Steak. Executive Chef Lauro Garcia prides himself on this quality-certified Angus beef steak that arrives at your table sizzling and cooked to perfection. Chef Lauro has been with the establishment for more than 25 years and had been the executive chef for more than 10. His attention to detail, beautiful plating and use of top-quality ingredients have regulars returning time and time again.
Also included on the menu is a fresh and delicious raw bar and original dishes from the sea; the Chilean sea bass is not to be missed! Throughout the year, The Oar does a “Dock to Table” night with a menu that changes based on what is fresh and local!
At The Oar, the focus on community is what makes it so special.
“The Oar is our home," Lindsey says. "Employees and customers are part of the Family.” Oars from loyal customers and businesses adorn the walls giving it the warm, intimate atmosphere, adding to the nautical charm reflected in its decor. In 2017, they renovated the outdoor bar giving it a bright, open feeling while keeping the integrity and look that customers have come to expect.
What’s on the horizon for this waterfront staple? As the Patchogue's Riverfront dining and entertainment continue to expand, The Oar plans on more events and collaborations with other waterfront establishments. Lindsey said that the family plans on constantly and consistently adding, expanding and renovating! Look out for live music every weekend, a special new Sunday brunch (because everyone loves mimosas) and monthly events. Favorites such as "dock-to-table" and "breakfast with Santa" will continue on with much more holiday and fall fun.
