These four luxurious Arizona resorts are redefining wellness

Castle Hot Springs

Location: 5050 N. Castle Hot Springs Road, Morristown

This landmark resort was once the playground of presidents, celebrities and business tycoons, from the Rockefellers, Carnegies and Vanderbuilts to John F. Kennedy. After decades of neglect that followed a devastating fire in 1976, the property has been transformed into a luxurious retreat that welcomes guests to experience its transcendental surroundings and crystal-clear waters that give it its name. Visitors are whisked away by private car or helicopter to the resort, where they’ll stay in private cabins and bungalows that feature comfortable furnishings, expansive patios and open air tubs that tap into the hot springs that flow throughout the grounds. The onsite garden provides more than 300 varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs that are used in the restaurant’s gourmet dishes. But the main attraction remains the hot springs. Three rejuvenating pools carved into a cliff behind the resort are filled with 110- to 120-degree water that flows out of the rock from an underground cistern and provide an experience unlike any other in Arizona.

Civana Wellness Resort & Spa

Location: 37220 Mule Train Road, Carefree

Offering a regenerating experience to travelers seeking a serene and healthy getaway, Civana focuses its philosophy on four pillars: movement, spa, nourishment and discovery. A sanctuary of calm, located just 15 minutes north of Scottsdale, the resort invites guests to participate in more than a dozen complimentary movement and fitness classes, from morning hikes to aerial yoga. The state-of-the-art spa, which recently underwent a $10 million renovation comprises 28 treatment rooms, 132 massage rooms and specializes in healing through water — including a hydrotherapy circuit, a Watsu pool, a lap pool and more — while child Scott Winegard’s plant-rich cuisine utilizes the best fresh, local ingredients.

Enchantment Resort

Location: 525 Boynton Canyon Road, Sedona

Set on 70 acres amid Sedona’s dramatic red rocks, this luxurious destination offers endless outdoor adventure, including yoga, hiking, tennis and more. With 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape, its pool has been named one of the best in the country.

For the ultimate wellness experience, Mii Amo, a 24,000-square-foot spa within Enchantment’s grounds, is a resort within a resort. The spa, which includes 16 casitas, a dedicated pool and a regionally inspired restaurant, incorporates Native American traditions and teachings into its programs, with a focus as much on spiritual exploration and mind-body balance as it is in general fitness and nutrition. All-inclusive spa retreats, or “Journeys” as they’re called, include accommodations in one of the Mii Amo casitas, spa treatments and meals. Enchantment guests can book treatments, ranging from traditional massage and body wraps to energy clearing, hypnosis, chakra meditation, and sound and crystal healing, on an à la carte basis.

Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa

Location: 5000 E. Via Estancia, Tucson

Offering one of the best destination spas in the country, this adults-only Tucson resort has won praise from around the folks around the world, including Oprah Winfrey. Nestled in the southern foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountain, Miraval offers extensive programming that ranges from active outdoor adventure to self-exploration and relaxing spa therapies. Create a personalized wellness experience that incorporates mental well-being (meditation, Qi grounding, soul guidance, crystal healing) relaxation (aerial yoga, breathwork, massage), adventure (hiking, trail running, tightropes, climbing wall), and even grief and loss (labyrinth, remembrance ceremony, journaling).
