From the parking garage down through the halls, the thump of upbeat music beckons visitors toward the doors, where, once across the threshold, the energy grabs you and pulls you in. The Title Boxing Club, located in beautiful downtown Columbia, is bright-both with beaming sunlight and bright faces. Directly across from The Columbia Mall parking lot, the club is a great place for a workout and a safe place to boot. Owner Harry King says his number one priority is safety. He chose this location for his business partly because his members can park safely in the parking garage and walk confidently into the club.  Bonus: No matter rain sleet, or snow, members can get a great workout without battling the elements. He also wanted to be a part of the beautiful development and revitalization of downtown Columbia.

After teaching a 5:45 A.M. class, King is somehow able to greet his members with a smile and by name. “I want to know your name when you walk in the door,” he says.

King hails from Pasadena, Maryland and his love for fitness started as early as 7 years old. As a child, he would watch the Hawaiian Iron Man Triathlon competitions on television. So when the opportunity arose for him to participate in his first triathlon as a 40th birthday celebration with college classmates, King jumped at the chance and registered for the Lake Placid Iron Man. King was a former athlete, so he decided to train himself.

“I was so ill-prepared, that the race was terrible, but the camaraderie and support from all the other competitors drew me in. I was hooked!” King recalls. He was so enthralled, that he eventually became certified as a triathlon coach to help others have a better experience than he had his first time. His love for coaching stemmed from working with his daughters, so he took those same skills and transferred them to his work with other clients. When transitioning from coach to Title Boxing Club owner, the workout is what propelled King, he says, counting it as the greatest workout he’d ever done.

Title Boxing Club is a place for everyone, no matter the age or fitness level. Whether you are looking for a quick 30 minute workout or a challenging 75 minute workout, you can find something that works for you here. This high intensity interval training inspired workout, engages your whole body.  The trainers at Title Boxing Club know exactly how to lead all fitness levels safely through boxing and kickboxing workouts, as well as private training sessions.

These workouts can be considered cross training for athletes in other disciplines, or a new regimen for someone just starting on his or her fitness journey.  There is no judgment and no need to compare yourself to others. King emphasized that the workouts are designed to be “you vs. you”. The family like environment at Title Boxing Club allows members to be themselves, no matter what is going on in their lives. King says,”We are all battling something every day; let us be your refuge.”

Temi Akisanya had been interested in trying a class at Title for a while, and being a fitness enthusiast she was up for the challenge.  “I liked that, before class, the trainers help wrap your hands and show you the basics,” says Temi. Her friend Nicole Jones, who was also visiting for the first time said,”I liked that someone was watching what we were doing and was willing to correct us so that we didn’t hurt ourselves.”

If Title Boxing Club members are the cars, the trainers are the engines. The energy they bring and the different workouts they provide enable them to help members achieve their personal goals.  King explains that his trainers are chosen based on many factors, but dependability and experience are key. “My head trainer, and assistant general manager Daijah fit that bill,” he says, “She has a great personality, is experienced in the Title way, and puts on a kick-butt class.” King says.  Washina, a fellow trainer, also brings great energy to the table. Daijah and Washina are just two of the wonderful trainers at Title Boxing Club. King says,” We are always looking for more great talent to help our members get a great workout.

“Our vision is to be here to help people reach their health and fitness goals.  Everyone is welcome here; we care about you,” says King.  He explains the difference between a gym and his club. “We are not a gym. Gyms look at their members as statistics.  People can come and go, and it doesn’t matter.  They’re just numbers. We are a club. We care about you and you are a part of our family.  We are going to challenge you and support you.”
