Women of Influence

Celebrating the Ladies who Inspire the Boca Raton Community!

Boca Style Magazine selected 3 Women who work hard to benefit the lives of individuals in our community. We wanted to honor unsung heroes and those publicly recognized for their achievements.

Lauri Capano, Honorary Chair Cystic Fibrosis

In 2000, Lauri's son Nicholas Capano was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 18 months of age. Her late husband Sal Capano  wanted to raise funds to help find a cure by putting on an annual dinner event.  Sal raised more than $2 million in seven years.  When Sal passed away in 2007 Lauri committed to continue with Sal’s mission.

During the three years following Sal's passing Lauri was continuously fundraising and almost wanted to quit. That's when she met Michael Rankin.  Michael, an adult living with CF , turned a serious fundraising dinner into a fun wine-tasting event. Michael said, “Everyone loves wine!"

The Wine Opener is a fabulous night filled with all kinds of bottles of fine wines, cocktail hour and elegant sit down dinner with live entertainment and DJ. Silent and live auction items include trips from around the world, original pieces of art, yacht charters  and trips for wine lovers!

This event has grown to over 300 people netting $263,000 and 90 cents on the dollar raised goes to fund research!  Lauri's son Nick has been on a drug trial for the past two years and this has since experienced minimal symptoms of cystic fibrosis!  This drug was FDA approved on October 22, 2019 and now helps 27,000 people out of the 30,000 U.S. population who carry the CF gene mutations.  With the support of guests and sponsors, Lauri is confident soon CF will stand for “cure found!"

The Wine Opener is held every October. For information contact:

Kathy Adkins, President, Impact 100 PBC

Impact 100 PBC connects and inspires women to improve our community by collectively funding multiple $100,000 high impact grants to nonprofits in southern Palm Beach County. The nonprofit organization is comprised of a growing number of women who donate $1,000 annually, pool all funds and vote to award multiple $100,000 grants in five focus areas: Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation; Education; Environment and Animal Welfare; Family; and Health and Wellness. Since 2012, Impact 100 PBC has awarded $3.3 million to more than 60 local nonprofit organizations.

Kathy has been involved since 2011. " I am so proud to be a part of this dynamic women's philanthropic organization. I started as a grant reviewer, co-chaired our Compliance Committee, then became President Elect for the 2019-2020 season."  The short term goal for the 2020 grant year is to reach 600 members and increase to 1,000 members by  2025.

This grant year, 110 nonprofits applied for an Impact 100 PBC grant.  Impact 100 is only able to grant one $100,000 grant in each of the five focus areas. Tough decisions are made because so many of the proposed projects are worthy of funding. That is why they continue to try and increase membership numbers.

All women who would like to be a part of this powerful "giving circle" are warmly welcomed! To join, or to learn more about Impact 100 Palm Beach County visit
