I love to sing. I have never thought of myself as a great singer, but singing has always made me happy. So, when I heard through my friends at church that a new non-audition chorus would use our church for rehearsals, I signed up and became one of the 19 original singers in the North Atlanta Voices. I didn’t know what part I would sing at our first rehearsal, but I decided I would be safer tucked away with the altos, who were mostly safe from high notes. I quickly found that all levels of singing experience surrounded me - some were professional musicians, some had experience with choirs or choruses, and others who were more like me, had little to no experience.
Our conductor, Lucas Tarrant, is a talented and engaging teacher and an expressive musician. He provides us with informative direction so that anybody can participate and not feel left out of the artful music we make. Lucas has great faith in us, and we are challenged with varying degrees of difficulty in our musical selections. Our songs are from the classical choral canon, but we have learned and performed songs from multiple centuries and in more than five languages.
If you had asked me before this experience if I had sung in more than five languages, I would have laughed at the thought. I had never performed for a live audience before, and I found the experience of working together in preparation for our concert exhilarating. One of the significant discoveries for me was how people of all ages and backgrounds who sing together quickly develop a sense of community. What unites us, chorus and audience alike, is a common goal of making beautiful music and bringing people together. Joining this chorus has opened my life to so many new avenues. I had just retired from a large organization in a professional services role and mainly associated with fellow professionals. In the chorus, I have met people from many different life experiences. I have challenged myself to take private lessons where I have learned to sing arias in other languages.
Also, I have furthered my commitment to the success of NAV by joining its board of directors to help our founders, Cheryl and Lucas, get the recognition they deserve. We are blessed with outstanding leadership and very talented and enthusiastic singers. I am happy because I sing.
North Atlanta Voices Spring Concert

The Spring Concert will feature popular choral standards, including Whitacre, Offenbach, Copland, and more. Our conductor will provide background about each song and composer. We will have a raffle with products donated by local businesses, and a complimentary wine and cheese reception following the concert.
North Atlanta Voices is Atlanta’s only non-auditioned community chorus, cofounded by Lucas Tarrant and Cheryl Logan in 2018. What started as a spark and idea of a young voice teacher is now a 45 member choir. The goal is to provide an opportunity for people to come together, make music and friends, and foster a positive environment focused on inclusion, diversity, and community.
Carole Browne has been singing with the chorus from its inception in 2018. She is a dedicated alto.
