Ever wanted to make cocktails like a bartender? You can do that and here is how! Kyma, one of the country’s best Greek restaurants, is now offering a mixology class, but with a twist: they pair it with food — just like you pair wine with specific dishes. Kyma is one of the leading restaurants that matches its creative drinks with its delicious food.
How awesome! Andrej Pop, the assistant manager of Kyma, is the host of the mixology class and a pro expert in creating cocktails and helping you make that perfect cocktail. The cost is $48 per person and reservations are required. The three half-hour classes start at 5 pm, 5:30 pm and 6 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We made three cocktails: Thirsty Philosopher (paired with a fish ceviche); Elmera (paired with a scallop over yellow split pea puree) and Morpheus (paired with Kyma’s amazing grilled octopus). Andre was delightful and taught us the basics of mixing drinks as well as a few tricks. For instance, after shaking, if you have trouble separating the two shakers, gently tap them on the edge of the table!
Chef Pano is not only the executive chef at Kyma but also the corporate executive chef of Buckhead Life Restaurant Group. Of course, another highlight was a visit by Chef Pano who explained the mixology class and its pairing with his cuisine. While having dinner at this Buckhead eatery, be sure to purchase Chef Pano’s cookbook Modern Greek Cooking: 100 Recipes for Meze Entrees, as well as his line of Greek products such as olive oil, honey, feta cheese and olives.

1.25oz Barr Hill gin
0.75oz St. Elder
1.25oz sour mix
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
Pinch of Lavender
Put all of the ingredients into a shaker. Shake well and strain through sifter into a martini glass. Garnish with wild hibiscus flower.
