Kathleen McDaniel’s first cooking experiment was making divinity with her grandmother. “I remember lifting up the beaters and the egg whites flying all over the kitchen,” says Kathleen, a resident of Alpharetta. This culinary adventure lit her spark for working with food. From her earliest studies at Johnson and Wales to her current position as executive pastry chef and partner at Zambawango, Kathleen has never looked back.

Throughout her culinary career, Kathleen has broken many glass ceilings. From several appearances at the James Beard House in New York City to various prestigious pastry chef positions, Kathleen has found her true culinary home, Zambawango in Sandy Springs.

Zambawango is perhaps most reflective of Kathleen’s approach to baking. “At my bakery, we are gluten-free and keto-friendly which reinforces my view that nature provides everything you need,” she says. “I realized people wanted healthy alternatives, especially my customers who can't eat real sugar like diabetics and those with other metabolic challenges. Our bakery products are the highest quality available.”

Last year, Kathleen appeared on Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay,” and she beat Bobby Flay. Kathleen’s upbeat personality, culinary talents, and a very inspired twist on a classic Greek Baklava made with candied bacon stole the show!

Kathleen supports No Kid Hungry/Share our Strength. “No Kid Hungry hits my heart the hardest," said Kathleen. “I was also raised in a low-income family, I can relate to the children so much.”
