What to Plant in May

Many people have decided to start growing their own food during this time. If you're new to gardening, there are a few things you should know before you get your hands dirty. The hardiness zone you live in (see map below) dictates which seeds you should plant and when. Here are just a few of the veggies you should plant in May.

Tomatoes (Zones 3-10)

May is the time to transplant your seedlings outdoors. Be sure to place them in an area that gets full sunlight.

Carrots (Zones 3-10)

Start your carrot seedlings inside so they will be ready to transplant outside. Carrots are harvested in the fall.

Peppers (Zones 3-10)

It's not too late to grow a variety of peppers in your garden. They produce high yields, take up little space and can be mild or fiery hot!

Summer Squash (Zones 3-10)

Summer squash includes zucchini, yellow squash, scalloped, straight neck and other varieties. They'll be ready for harvest in July.
