Pulling into our home for the weekend, Mountain Dweller, just east of Blue Ridge, we were greeted by the smiling faces (behind masks) of the local team from Vacasa, the vacation home management company. Traveling during a pandemic had left us edgy, but seeing the caring humans behind Vacasa’s “Premium Clean Program” put us at ease immediately. Their expanded housekeeping measures meet or exceed CDC recommendations and align with guidance from hospitality industry experts and for us, that meant everything. The place was spotless (and I'm a harsh critic).
Mountain Dweller, a five-bedroom, four-bathroom log cabin-style home includes a separate 1-bedroom in-law cabin and a small wooded yard. The stand-out is the wrap-around porch, screened at one end to house a mammoth stone fireplace complete with a nearby huge woodpile and a substantial poker made from a golf club shaft. It’s touches like this (not overly kitschy and downright handy) that made this house special. A long picnic table and plenty of bentwood seating on the second story porch gave us room to spread out, eat outside and watch the horseshoe competition below. A basement level family room (handy for early morning toddler tv time) opened to a patio with the hot tub and access to the yard.
The photos on Vacasa.com provided an excellent walk-through, but the wonder of that wrap-around porch can’t be captured in images, only in memories.

For any new reservation, you can cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund. After that, cancel at least 7 days before check-in and Vacasa will deposit a Future Stay Credit into your Vacasa account for you to use up to 15 months after the day your credit is issued.
