Master Masonry

Building the perfect area for outside enjoyment

William Harrison, founder of Outdoor Kitchens of Augusta, started working on building crews around the age of thirteen and remembers how the men he worked with and his father served as role models and ultimately sealed his decision to pursue a career in masonry. “I became fascinated with building at a young age,” remembers William. “My dad was always building everything, and he was a very hard worker and a great provider.”

“Now, I’m a master mason and in masonry, we build,” adds William. “Along the way it just spawned into a building business. But, I don’t own this business. The Lord owns this business – I just run it and that’s why we’re successful. We’re just good stewards of the Lord.”

Over the years, William has built everything from sheds to room additions to garages. Seven years ago, his focus shifted to outdoor kitchens. However, William has always operated under the same principle. He says, “We build everything above the grade that the state, federal, and local guidelines require. Customers can expect the highest level of quality at middle of the road pricing.”

There are several things to consider when planning an outdoor kitchen. Most importantly, William emphasizes that it’s important to contract with someone who has previously designed outdoor kitchens and knows what they are doing. He stresses, “Get someone who knows what makes an outdoor area attractive and functional.”

Secondly, identify the best location for installation. Will the kitchen area need to be detached from the home or will you do most of the outdoor entertaining right outside your back door? Also consider high foot traffic areas and easy access from entertainment rooms of the home such as the kitchen and living room.

Next, estimate the amount of space available for your outdoor kitchen. The typical size outdoor kitchen with the most popular amenities is 20ft by 20ft. Smaller areas may require a bit more creativity to accommodate amenities but is still feasible.

Now, the most fun part….choosing the amenities! Most outdoor kitchens include a grill (gas, pellet, or other specialty grill), sink, counter and shelf space, refrigerator, television, and sound system. Additional common features include wine coolers, fireplaces (traditional or ventless), hot tubs, and fire pits. Ultimately, it’s your outdoor kitchen and William says, “Just about any kind of amenity that you can think of to add to your outdoor kitchen, we can add to it.”

On average, William says outdoor kitchen construction takes from one to three weeks depending on the size of the kitchen, amenities to be installed, and how easily accessible the area is to work crews and machinery.

The goal of Outdoor Kitchens of Augusta is your happiness and enjoyment of the new outdoor living space. William says, “When you call us, you can rest assured that you’re going to walk away happy with your dreams fully achieved. We stand on our reputation. We say what we do, and we do what we say.”
