The Center for Child Protection, a nationally accredited children’s advocacy center and the only nonprofit in Travis County involved in the investigation and prosecution of crimes against children, has been the first stop for children in Travis County who are suspected victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and for children who have witnessed a violent crime – for 32 years! Rather than host a traditional charity gala, they infuse their annual fundraiser with a heavy dose of interactive fun, and were rewarded this year with $2 million raised from the dancing contestants, those who bought tables to support the dancers, sponsors including Mercedes-Benz of Austin and a live auction that included things like a private concert with Lukas Nelson, the opportunity to become a celebrity dancer in the 2022 Dancing with the Stars Austin event.
More than 1000 people attended the event chaired by Julie Jumonville and Jenny Mason at the JW Ma riot where Pete Phillips and professional partner Susan Kirklin took top prize of the mirror ball trophy. Double A Labs founder Amber Allen won the Fundraising and Awareness award and was also first runner-up with her professional partner Travis Herman.
