Sentimental Journey from Past to Present

How to Relive My Childhood Every Day

Scrolling through my Instagram feed while daydreaming of the perfect home for my family, I remember the joy of summer days and holiday nights spent in my grandparent’s farmhouse in Star.   Self-sufficiency is an Idaho tradition, and living in a warm and spacious farmhouse on acreage for my kids and animals to roam is a connection to my past and to a time that was simpler.  However, I also crave and wholeheartedly endorse every modern comfort, soothing color palette, and attention to architectural detail.  It’s rare when I find the “sweet spot” that embodies the atmosphere of the past with the vibe of the present.

“Modern Farmhouse” listed by Kayla Fearn combines nostalgia with laid-back luxury and blends the best of both worlds.  From a kick-off-your-boots mud-room to a dog-washing station for dirty paws, this is a home built for large and loud Sunday dinners with family, and a place where I can later escape into the sanctuary of a deep soaking tub.

It wouldn’t be a farmhouse without making breakfast with fresh eggs from the hens in the chicken coop, riding Lady stabled in the barn, eating the bounty from the large garden, and grazing the prized steer on the hay grown on 5 acres of land.  In fact, being self-sufficient could include sipping wine from my very own irrigated vineyards.

Grandma would approve.
