About Us
I'm Alec, a performer, teacher, and lifelong explorer of the classical guitar. I've been playing since I was old enough to hold the instrument, and since then I've won international competitions, received degrees from The Curtis Institute of Music and San Francisco Conservatory of Music, performed internationally, and pursued countless projects to further my curiosity of the guitar. After years of teaching on the road and online, I've opened this studio to teach in-person for anyone interested in delving into the classical guitar, either as a life-enriching hobby or as a potential future profession. The classical guitar has a near limitless depth of complexity, which I think makes it endlessly fun and rewarding. My teaching focuses on: Building a fluid, efficient, and healthy technique—laying the groundwork for a lifetime of playing with ease and control. Demystifying improvement—using a thoughtful, conscious approach to problem solving while also learning to trust intuition and sensory awareness. Understanding the language of music—how to listen more purposefully and play with authenticity. Developing a personal connection to music—exploring what it means to interpret, to create, and to listen to your own musical instincts. Every lesson comes with a personalized email summary (called the Post Lesson Review) that recaps what was covered and outlines what to focus on in the coming week—providing a clear, thoughtful roadmap for continued progress between lessons.
