About Us
Kelly Sternau picked up her first jeweler's tools at 15, working for a master jeweler while still in high school. She went on to study hand fabrication and Italian metalworking at Art Studio Fuji in Florence, Italy, worked at the bench in Denver, and moved to Minnesota in 2012 to join Mark Michael Diamond Designs, rising from production into CAD and custom design under Mark Lauer. When Mark retired in 2023, Kelly bought the studio and renamed it Croft & Stern. The Mark Michael legacy stayed put: Mark is now a featured independent designer whose new pieces debut here, and the Mark Michael warranty carries on under Croft & Stern. The heart of this woman-owned Main Street studio is custom work made in-house. Clients see a design before anything is made, whether it is an engagement ring from scratch or a grandmother's diamonds remodeled into something they will actually wear. There is a Quick Custom option for simpler projects and virtual custom design for clients outside the Twin Cities. Repairs happen on site, from ring sizing and prong work to chain soldering, along with laser engraving, appraisals and permanent jewelry. The showroom mixes one-of-a-kind and limited-run pieces from the studio and from independent artists the team knows personally, plus estate jewelry, watches and men's pieces. Kelly's husband, Josh, manages the store. Visit 7897 Main St N in Maple Grove, Tuesday through Saturday, or call (763) 494-5700.
