Homeownership Can Be A Pathway To Generational Wealth... In 2005, my younger sister and I followed our mom to move to New Jersey from the Philippines. For over a decade, we lived in rental houses. Growing up our mom worked 3 jobs to make ends meet so we never thought that it was possible for us to own a home because we always thought we could never afford it. When I became a real estate agent, we learned that my mom was eligible for a first-time homebuyer program that helped her buy her first house. I sold her a two-family unit that brought in passive income for our family; making her mortgage cheaper than our rent. Today, she had gained enough equity to refinance where her rental income covers her mortgage payment. Since then, I have helped dozens of families, especially immigrants, achieve their dream of homeownership. I too at 27 just bought my first home. My husband and I hope that investing in a home at a young age will continue the generational wealth that my mom started in our family for our daughter.
