About Us

The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal shelter and affordable care clinic located in Kansas City, Kansas. The Humane Society is the oldest animal shelter in KC, starting in 1912 to help the homeless pets of the city find shelter, care, and adoptable homes. Seeing 11,000 pets annually, HSGKC provides full service veterinary care at an affordable cost; being the stopgap between pets receiving the care they need or going without. HSGKC services Kansas City's most underserved communities, creating a safe space free from judgement, criticism or assumptions. Our goal is to simply provide you and your pet with invaluable care to ensure your pet is healthy and taken care of, regardless of financial constraints. We rely on our community patrons to help us ensure thousands of animals receive the care they need. Our shelter program includes adoptions, lost pet reunification, a community food pantry, and more.
