The Music Hall is a historic non-profit performing arts center in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire. First opened in 1878, it is the 14th-oldest operating theater in the United States and holds "American Treasure" status from the National Park Service. Today, the organization hosts over 130,000 visitors annually across two distinct venues: The Historic Theater (28 Chestnut St): An 895-seat Victorian/Beaux-Arts hall featuring a classic gold-leaf proscenium arch, hand-painted ceiling dome, and rare 19th-century hemp rigging system. It presents national concert tours, authors, dance, and mainstage theater. The Loft (131 Congress St): A modern, 120-seat venue offering an intimate space for indie musicians, comedians, film screenings, and emerging artists.
