About Us

Wright State University, located 8 miles northeast of downtown Dayton, Ohio, annually serves more than 12,000 students and offers more than 270 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional degree programs. The university also operates a branch campus, Wright State University–Lake Campus, on the shores of Grand Lake St. Marys in Celina, Ohio. Wright State was named to honor aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright, who invented the world's first successful airplane in their Dayton bicycle shop. In fact, the Wright brothers conducted most of their early test flights at Huffman Prairie, just a short drive from our Dayton campus. Originally a cooperative branch campus of Miami University and The Ohio State University, Wright State achieved full university status in 1967. Wright State offers more than 270 undergraduate, graduate, certificate, licensure, associate, endorsement, and professional degree programs. A 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio means individual attention and interaction that contribute to a terrific educational experience. The most populated undergraduate degree programs include nursing, rehabilitation services, early childhood education, biological sciences, medical laboratory science, sports science, general business, organizational leadership, middle childhood education, accounting, and computer science. Many degree options include nationally recognized programs and faculty members. The presence of many industry and business partners means terrific internship, co-op, and graduate and undergraduate research opportunities for our students. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Air Force Research Laboratory are right next door and many tech companies and defense-related contractors have an established presence in Dayton. More than 70,000 of Wright State’s 114,000 alumni still live in the Dayton area, creating incredible networking opportunities. 68 percent of students receive some type of financial aid. A wide variety of scholarships, grants, work-study programs, and student loan options are available. The Wright Guarantee Tuition Program guarantees the same annual cost of in-state tuition, housing, and dining over four years for new and transfer degree-seeking undergraduate students. Total enrollment for Fall Semester 2020 was 12,234, which included 6,841 women (55.9 percent) and 5,393 men (44.1 percent). Total minority student enrollment was 2,648 (21.6 percent). Graduate students comprise 15 percent of the student body and 27.7 percent of students are age 25 and older. More than 25 percent of Wright State students are first-generation college students. The average acceptance rate is 96 percent. Undergraduate applicants can apply for free and no ACT/SAT scores, essay, or deposit is required.
