Let’s Change the World

Mason teen Tanya Keskar’s Realize to Act nonprofit seeks to inspire and connect others to make a difference.

We often ask ourselves if we can truly make a difference in the world. Tanya Keskar, Mason teen, founder and CEO of the nonprofit Realize to Act, would answer with a resounding yes!

Tanya was only 11 years old when she travelled to Nagpur, India and interacted with children living in the slums. Thinking beyond her years she concluded, “Now that I know how others live around the world, I simply must help.”

“When I returned home, I realized we’re all consumed in our own lives and problems. We all need to open our eyes and be willing to see and care about others around us. I wanted to spread this realization to others to promote the importance of empathy, so I launched a nonprofit organization called Realize to Act, aimed at spreading awareness of causes through unique and innovative programs,” Tanya reflects.

Realize to Act is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded with the idea that people working together can make a difference. Tanya explains, “Our organization doesn’t focus on a specific need or cause. Our goal is providing opportunities and getting people involved where they have a passion to help. We run programs that bring people, resources and other nonprofits together and inspire people to act.”

In its first five years, Realize to Act has brought people together on projects such as providing backpacks and school supplies to children in need in Dayton, Kentucky, assembling hygiene packets for area homeless shelters and raising funds for organizations serving children in India. Recently, they were awarded a $5,000 grant from Meijer to continue these and other efforts.

Currently, Realize to Act is working to identify and connect people and resources to address a variety of needed services for those living in local homeless shelters.

Sixteen-year-old Tanya dreams big. Her vision is to reach every corner of the world and she believes with technology that is possible. She hopes to create a digital platform that will engage and connect people all around the world, expanding their knowledge and empathy to make a meaningful difference for themselves and others.

Tanya encourages everyone, “It can be daunting to take on a challenge to change the world, but if you are passionate, you can do it. We want to empower you to get started, find a support system and by working together we can make an impact.”
