Nicole Russell of Lauren Alexandra Interiors knows a lot about home design trends. After all, she’s been helping her clients fill their homes with spaces they love since 2014.

As trends tend to be influenced by what’s going on in the world, our current climate leans toward a home that’s all at once comforting, calm and cozy—as we continue to spend tons of time getting to know every nook and cranny of our living quarters, Nicole explains.

So whether you’re itching to switch up your home’s style a little or a lot, consider incorporating the following to help you love where you live.

Nicole’s Top Home Decor Trends

  1. Wallpaper. Very much “in” again, with patterns ranging from simple to large-scale—wallpaper can give some separation to rooms or just add a little color, texture and design.

  2. Plants. Whether live or faux, plants are very comforting. They can soften spaces and add a little color.

  3. Performance Fabrics. “Fabric durability is big right now,” Nicole says. “People are spending a lot of time at home and are using their spaces more, resulting in more spills. Most performance fabrics only require soap and water to clean.”

  4. Table Lamps. For those who’ve been working from home more than ever before, add soft lighting at your desk spaces to offer a nice glow while on Zoom calls.

  5. Headboards. Even though we’re not traveling as much, we still yearn for that comfortable, spa-like feeling in the bedroom. With headboards, you can create any type of space depending on the materials you choose. Plus, they add that personal touch.

  6. Tile. Right now, bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and more are being refinished with tile. Many people are updating or reworking the space they live in to be more functional, friendly—and most of all, cozy.
