You never know what some people are going through. Everyone has tough days, and more often than not, they fake a smile and keep powering through so nobody can see how they feel. We can all benefit from a little more kindness. Here are 5 ways you can do something kind for a stranger or someone you love.

1. Leave a Note on a Mirror

We are all so hard on ourselves! I can guarantee that most times someone looks in the mirror, they find something to criticize. Help combat that negative self-talk by leaving notes of encouragement all over bathroom mirrors and in fitting rooms when you go shopping. Can't think of what to write? Here are some options:

  • You are doing really well.
  • You deserve a treat today.
  • You matter.
  • You are human.
  • You are loved.
  • You are enough.
  • Everyone is jealous of your look today.
  • Today, you are stronger than you have ever been.
  • Wow, you are so smart. Go you!
  • Someone is proud of you today.

2. Send Money to a Friend

If you and your friends or family members use any kind of payment app like PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, etc., send someone $5 to go get a coffee or some other treat you know they love. Be specific in the message of what it's for so they know you're thinking of them and what they like.

3. Pay for a Stranger's Order

You can always go for the classic of paying for the person behind you in line. Whether you're in a drive-through or at a coffee shop, you know that it brightens anyone's day to have a surprise stranger pay for them.

4. Let Someone Pass You in Line

You don't have to spend money to do something kind for someone. All day, you can be looking for opportunities to help someone in a rush by holding a door open or letting someone go in front of you in line. Just having someone pay attention to them and consider that they might be in a hurry feels really kind and can make their day.

5. Write Thank You Notes

The people in your life might not always know how much you appreciate them. Take some time to write a few thank-you notes to your loved ones telling them how glad you are to have them by your side. You can get personal and specific if you'd like, but you can also keep it simple and just write a quick note of gratitude to your co-worker who helped you out the other day. If you're not feeling deep, you don't have to make it deep! Just share your thoughts and let people know they matter.
