Meet Nick Hoeller

Local Photographer With a Passion for Capturing Northeast Ohio

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Parma, Ohio. I eventually moved to Medina and I've lived here for fifteen years now.

When did your interest in photography begin?

When I bought my first DSLR camera. I was 13, and at the time I really enjoyed making videos. But after using a camcorder for a while, I wanted something new. So, I went with my mom to a store that was going out of business and they had a camera section. To my surprise, they had a great deal on a Canon DSLR that was in my price range. I decided to buy it, brought it home and got going on making videos. It wasn’t until later that I decided to explore the photo side of using the DSLR. After that, everything really took off.

Did you study photography in college?

I went to Cuyahoga Community College to study photography. I received my Associate's degree in December 2018.

Tell me a little bit about the process that goes into doing a shoot for a print publication or one of your other clients.

My process pretty much completely depends on what I am shooting. But normally, I start by getting in contact with the client or they’ll reach out to me. We’ll discuss what they want, when they want it and for how much. After all that is finalized, next comes the process of selecting the correct equipment to get the job done. When I arrive at the location of the shoot, I talk to the client and go over once again what their vision is. Then I set up and start shooting. At home, I go through all the photos and process them in my photo editor. After a few days, the final photos are uploaded on my site for the client to see and make any changes if needed.

What type of photography do you enjoy most?

I love shooting real estate and events. For those types of shoots, I get to meet a ton of great new people and establish connections. But I love being flexible and shoot whatever comes up.

What do you love about Medina County?

I love the community and our parks. A good handful of my followers are from Medina and they’re always so supportive of my work. It feels great when you see that from a community. I love the parks because I have taken some of my favorite photos there.

If you could have any other job in the world, what would you be?

Nothing. There’s no other job in the world that I would enjoy as much as I do photography.
