Mudrooms are very convenient dumping grounds for kids coming inside from playing in the dirt or the snow. But you don't want your mudroom to literally turn into a room covered in mud! Here are some ways to prepare for the dirty cleats, boots and sneakers traipsing through.

1. Use a gardening boot tray either outside the door or right inside and have your kids' first step be to take their shoes off there.

"This top-rated favorite helps dramatically lessen the mudroom mess. Slip off wet boots and shoes, and keep them on this lengthy plastic tray. The excess moisture drips into the deep rim, allowing your footwear to dry faster."

2. Use a sisal area rug to protect your floors.

"Milano sisal is our most stain and water-resistant sisal weave. Each weave is treated for stains before the rug is woven, forming a strong and easy to clean rug that you can feel confident in. These rugs also come in a variety of colors and bindings, ensuring that you can create the perfect rug that fits your mudroom’s design. Keep in mind, however, that this is still a natural fiber area rug, meaning that cleaning it with water-based methods could jeopardize the integrity of your rug."

3. Keep a hamper and a spare change of clothes for each kiddo in your mudroom.

Have a designated hamper that stays in the mudroom for those days when someone has a soccer game in the rain or everyone goes sledding. Keep a simple T-shirt and exercise shorts or sweatpants for each child in a cubby so they can peel off their dirty clothes right there and change into fresh, comfy clothes without any hassle.
