Have you ever thought about your work and home life and how much time spent at both costs you? Here are a few tips and information that may help you start to figure it out.

Calculate your normal hours at work compared to home. The standard formula is 8/24 = 33% work to 67% home. Currently, with the COVID-19 pandemic, shutdown, stay-at-home orders and company office time cutbacks, the average has changed to 10% at work and 90% at home.

Think about the additional 33% of time you are spending in your home and what that means for your energy consumption and general indoor air quality. More time at home equals a higher demand for your utilities, more devices being used and a much higher desire for all-around comfort (which in many cases means your furnace or air is running much more than usual).

There are many products that have been developed that have been proven to help offset all of these. For example, you may consider converting all of your lights to LED or maybe even installing automatic light switches, motion sensors or timers to help save on your electricity bills. Or maybe you could re-insulate your home with the industry’s highest r-rated insulation. Or even replace all of your home’s plumbing fixtures with upgraded low water usage products. These are all great options, but we urge you to also consider upgrading your home's HVAC system as your heating and cooling equipment typically consumes 46% of your home's monthly energy usage.

While all of these options do generally come with a higher upfront cost, the savings to you and the Earth we live on are undeniable. To give you an example of your potential savings, start by calculating the efficiency of your furnace - which will be somewhere between 70-98% efficient if it’s tuned properly. That means, depending on your existing equipment, you could save as much as 28% on your gas and electricity usage just with your furnace alone.

Unfortunately, it is hard to inform you how to calculate the actual efficiency of your air conditioner; however, by looking at your unit, All Weather Heating & Cooling can determine if you have an eight seer unit or as high as a 26 seer unit. The higher the seer rating, the more efficient your unit is and the less electricity it uses. Eighty percent of homes in Ohio have units between eight and 13 seer. These are just examples, but in most cases, when All Weather designs a system replacement, our clients are saving an average of $600-950 per year and you can be next.

If you want to learn how you reduce energy costs and help lower your impact on the environment, please give us a call at 330.516.1617 and we will have one of our specialists stop out to give you a free visual evaluation of your system.
