Friends Today, Family Tomorrow

Rick Wallace, owner of Wallace Home Furnishings, has spent his entire career in the furniture industry.

After 17 years in the corporate furniture business, Rick learned which brands were of the highest quality and value and were worth his recommendation to his customers.

Two years ago, Rick took that knowledge with him when he decided to open his own furniture store in Medina. He realized that the prices his former employers were charging for their furniture could be much lower in his store because of his considerably lower overhead costs and profit margins. He also made a conscious and important decision to carry almost entirely American-made products in his store because he believes in their value, quality and accessibility — all of which are qualities that Rick learned his customers were looking for the most.  As a result, Wallace Home Furnishings has been a huge success. Rick has seen the business grow and grow, thanks mostly to positive word-of-mouth recommendations and referrals from their satisfied and loyal customers.

When you walk into Wallace Home Furnishings' showroom, you will immediately see impressive furniture sets and collections by brands such as Lane, Jackson, Catnapper, Nest Home Collections and Vaughan-Bassett. American-made Jackson modular sectionals with customized individual pieces to best fit the size of your room are plenty. Attractive and sturdy solid wood bedroom sets catch your eye as soon as you enter the store. A beautiful selection of dining room tables and chairs are in the store as well. Wallace Home Furnishings even carries locally made, Amish-built furniture for those looking to buy from local manufacturers.

There are so many advantages to buying American-made furniture and Rick was quick to point a few of them out while showing me around his showroom.

"The biggest difference is quality," he says. "Most of the furniture that I carry is made in America, about 95% actually. And with American-made furniture, you're going to get mostly solid wood construction, which obviously means it's going to be more durable than the fabricated, laminate furniture that is often produced overseas."

Another huge advantage to buying American-made furniture is the accessibility, especially now as the pandemic has caused havoc in the shipping industry.

Rick continues, "If you were going to buy a couch right now that is foreign made, there are wait times of up to a year and a half for delivery! With my furniture, if I don't have it in my showroom or warehouse, I can get it to you within about two months."

Wallace Home Furnishings knows that replacing your mattress can be exhausting work. Between the time it takes to do online research, and then shopping around from store to store, and then debating between the different styles and materials available, you can definitely feel like a much-needed nap is in store.

Rick knows what a difficult process that can be and that's why he carries premium Restonic brand mattresses. Restonic is handcrafted in the USA and features MicroCoils, gel memory foam or hybrid construction for advanced support and comfort.

Restonic's Scott Living Mattresses are endorsed by Drew and Jonathan Scott, HGTV's Property Brothers and are rated as one of the top mattresses in the industry. Restonic's superior customer service and unbelievable warranty have made Rick a believer in the quality and value of their mattresses.

On the store's website, you will see the phrase "Friends Today, Family Tomorrow" and after meeting Rick for just a few minutes, you will quickly understand why he has chosen those words as the slogan for his business. There is so much sincerity in his voice when he talks to you about his store and the products he carries, that it's impossible to simply feel like just another customer while you are there. It's not surprising that if you look at the reviews of Wallace Home Furnishings, you will find so many positive comments about their superior customer service and quality products.

"So much of what I love about the business is finding the unique things that my customers want and offering all the different styles that people from all walks of life are interested in. It's such a joy to help people furnish and decorate their homes," he says.

Rick goes on to tell a story of the time he ran into a very satisfied customer at a local grocery store. The woman was so happy to see him and tell him what a difference the mattress he sold to her and her husband has made in her husband's breathing issues at night. She gave him a big hug and thanked him emphatically for his recommendation of such a quality product.

Unfortunately, this occurrence happened at the height of the COVID-19 social-distancing requirements and the store management asked the two to step outside to continue with their happy reunion. A small price to pay for a happy customer for life.
