Ever Thought of Joining the Circus?

Dragonfly Aerial Company Invites Public to Fly

With the Air Force Academy and three other Air Force bases located in Colorado Springs, aerial feats are kind of a specialty around here. We see the Air Force Academy parachuters and gliders on a regular basis and get a visit from the Thunderbirds once a year, as well.

But Mistia Fallon has introduced another type of aerial feature to our city. Perhaps lesser known, but certainly no less impressive, Dragonfly Aerial Company invites the community to “come fly with us.” What is special about the flight that Fallon offers is that there is something for everyone.

Fallon studied dance and theatre in college and then went back to school to study magic and illusion. She ended up working for years as a cruise ship performer, and in an effort to expand the show to better fill the stage, she ventured into the aerial arts.

Real-Life Circus Training

If you have ever thought of running away and joining the circus, now is your chance. Dragonfly Aerial Company is a member of the American Youth Circus Organization, American Circus Educators and the American Circus Alliance. Fallon has had many students who have gone on to perform for Cirque de Soleil; she’s kind of a big deal.

The goal is to offer an uplifting, empowering and positive environment to a community that values artistic expression. Athletically, aerial arts will introduce you to muscles you didn’t know you had (or had forgotten you had). It is a mentally challenging activity that uses physics to create shapes, leverage and improve balance. And for those who are serious about staying in the business, Fallon offers her years of practical life-learning experience on how to start a company and all of the intricate details of the entertainment industry.

Safety + Education

If safety was the first excuse that came to mind, Dragonfly is one step ahead. Fallon is one of four members on the American Circus Educators Insurance Committee whose focus is on elevating safety guidelines and policies around the nation. Health education, checks and balances as well as setting standards for safety are her passions. One of the things integrated in the classes at Dragonfly is teaching students how to recognize safety before taking their chances on equipment outside of the studio.

Social Circus programs for at-risk youth and providing classes for those with sensory challenges are also passions for Fallon and will be a staple at their newest location on Powers Boulevard and Woodmen Road. Classes for littles, taught by a certified behavioral therapist or classes for those in their 40’s looking for a low impact way to increase strength, balance and flexibility while trying something a little out-of-the-box, Dragonfly Aerial Company truly does have something for everyone.

“It’s a process,” Fallon says, “enjoy the journey to what you might think is the goal then then the goal changes and you are on to the next chapter.”
